SIMPSON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A State Police Fire Marshal says the fire that destroyed a building in Simpson early Friday morning was delibertely set.

The blaze was discovered around midnight in a former bar with adjoining apartments on Rittenhouse Street. Volunteers from Lackawanna, Wayne and Susquehanna responded to the alarm. They managed to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby home.

The building had been vacant. But neighbors told firemen that someone had been seen leaving the property before the fire was discovered.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the fire in Simpson to contact the Pennsylvania State Police at the Dunmore Barracks. The number is 963-3156.
