SHAWNEE ON DELAWARE, MONROE COUNTY - Some of us have had it with the snow but others are celebrating every last flake, especially people in the Pocono tourism business. Tourism is the biggest industry in Monroe County.

When flakes fall, snow and profits pile up at Shawnee Mountain. Marketing Representative Whitney Reynolds smiled, "Business is great."

Presidents weekend is usually the biggest ski weekend of the year here at Shawnee and with the most recent snow they expect it's going to be even bigger than usual. Snowboarder Jack Ruiz said, "Fresh snow like this is way better than the artificial snow."

The holiday weekend crowds usually come on Saturdays but Thursday morning there was already a line at the ticket counter. Ken Warren of New Jersey said, "This is a great day. Nice and sunny. Beautiful weather. Nice and cold." Warren is a horse shoer from New Jersey. The farms he services were snowed in so he took the day off. He laughed, "I'm out here playing today."

Lots of kids were also playing. Their schools had two snow days in a row. Anthony Contino of Bushkill smiled, "Oh it was great. I was so happy cause I get to come snowboarding." He and his friends were some of the first people in line to get in. They said they want to enjoy the fresh powder before the crowds get even bigger.

The people who run the mountain love the snow as much as the kids who ride it. Reynolds said, "It's important to the economy in the Poconos."

Shawnee Mountain is so busy it has already filled every private ski school lesson for the holiday weekend. Group lessons will still be available.
