HANOVER TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY- Two thieves smashed into a Luzerne County sporting goods store and got away with guns. It happened overnight at Nimrod Haven Sporting Goods. It's on the Sans Souci Parkway in Hanover Township.
Police say they don't have any suspects but they do have several leads. The big concern now is recovering those guns.
Workers spent Wednesday morning fixing the damage at the front of the building. Investigators say at around 4:45 Wednesday morning two men wearing masks drove a white Ford Taurus through the front door. They got out, grabbed a large number of guns and then took off in a dark pick-up truck.
Police say the Taurus was stolen from West Nanticoke. ItŐs heavily damaged, but police say the real damage was done when the thieves made off with the handguns. Hanover Township Police Chief Al Walker said, "Individuals such as these, when they steal a large amount of weapons, theyŐ're already in the wrong hands. Our major focus is attempt to get an ID on these individuals and get those weapons back.Ó
Police are now looking at surveillance video taken by the dozen or so cameras inside the store. The owner was too upset to talk to us but a man who works in a nearby auto repair shop says this type of crime is becoming all to common.
Joe Monico of Jer-Dan Motors said, "It doesn't surprise me anymore, anything that happens. Stores are getting robbed, Turkey HillŐs, it's like an everyday thing now. ThereŐs so much violence around here it's like a big city."
Investigators say this break-in may be related to another similar break-in in the area in recent months. If you have any information about this crime call Hanover Township police. Also helping in this investigation are the A. T.F. and state police. | |
