Danville, Montour County-

Through the miracles of modern technology, a soldier is able to witness the birth of his baby boy from halfway around the world. We chatted with the happy family at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Amanda Noblit was disappointed when she learned that her husband David, a Marine, would still be deployed in Iraq when their baby boy was born.

Amanda noted, “I thought for sure that he wasn’t going to be able to be a part of it and that was kind of sad because it’s our first baby and you can’t recreate those moments.”

But through a state-of-the-art satellite network, a video conference allowed David to see and hear everything, even talking to his wife as she gave birth to little Cayden Edward Noblit.

David, via satellite, explained, “I didn’t think it would ever be possible but my wife’s an amazing woman. She set everything up. It’s just the next best thing from being here in Iraq.”

Amanda recalled the delivery experience. “He’s like sitting there biting his hand and stuff. He looked really concerned and everything so it was nice to be able to see his reactions that he would’ve had if he’d been here in person,” she said.

The conference was made possible by the Freedom Calls Foundation, which provides about 150 of these new baby conferences at hospitals nationwide every month.

But this was the first ever at Geisinger. And the service was provided free of charge by the Freedom Calls Foundation.

Amanda added, “It was just great for him to be able to see it and to be a part of it.”

David, a combat engineer, comes home from Iraq at the end of August, and we’re sure there’ll be plenty of catching up to do.

After that, Mom, Dad, and Cayden will head back to Camp Pendleton in California, where David is stationed.
