EAST BUFFALO TWP., UNION COUNTY- Another group of soldiers got ready to go this morning. More than 100 men in the 3rd Battalion, 103rd Armor Regiment said goodbye to loved ones in Lewisburg.

Hugs were everywhere at the armory in east buffalo township as members of the 103rd armor regiment prepared to leave for the first leg of their deployment.

1st Lt. William Medina said, "Generally morale is high. I believe the troops are trained well and ready to go. We have great family support here and I believe we're ready."

The 107 men will first head to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, but will get the chance to come back home for Christmas before leaving for Afghanistan.

Sgt. Anthony Foulds said, "Especially having a little one. It's nice to know we're not missing this Christmas. I get to be with my family."

For many of the soldiers we spoke with, this will be their first deployment. Pvt. 1st Class Curtis Yost said, "This is going to be a whole new experience, not sure what to expect. I'm hoping for the best. The guys I'm going over with seem really cool. I'm hoping for the best.”

“We really don't know until we get there exactly what the mission is going to be. Once we get boots on the ground we'll get a good idea of what's going on," added Medina.

Pvt. 1st Class Juan Ayala said, "Excited I guess in one way and sad in another."

Ayala will be leaving just before his brother comes home. "I've got my brother's in Iraq right now, He's coming back next month so I won't be able to see him at all after 18 months of deployment for him," he added.

He worries about leaving his wife and 5 kids for the next year, but is trying to stay positive. "I'm going with a good group of guys, but leaving your family behind you get really homesick sometimes,” said Ayala.
