SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- More than 100 soldiers were recognized Saturday for their service to their country during a freedom salute ceremony.
Hundreds of soldiers packed the Watres Armory in Scranton. The event honors veterans from the 109th Infantry and Echo Company 228.
The tribute is designed to publicly acknowledge army guard soldiers who fought for the flag. Major Richard Tylicki says, "It's a chance to just sit back and say thank you for your service to the country... thank you for going overseas and thank you for being separated from your life and taking time to serve.. the citizen soldier which is what we're all about in the national guard."
103 soldiers were recognized at Saturday's freedom salute.
