Soldiers from Luzerne County are getting ready to head into harm's way.
The Army's 11th Military Police brigade is going through some special training before deploying overseas.
Soldiers crack their books and listen up to a lesson that could save their lives.
Sgt. Amy Yu of the Fort Hamilton Combat Support Hospital says, "When you go overseas, you are always going to be in a combat situation. You never know when they're going to attack."
About 60 soldiers from the 11th m-p brigade out of Ashley are taking part in combat life-saving training.
Colonel Paul Rauh of the 11th MP Brigade says, “It's critical that we do everything we can to bring every soldier home and we provide whatever training is possible to them to make sure that they return home safe and sound to their families."
The training may be in a classroom but it's realistic.
A wall projector in the training room says do not perform CPR in a fire fight.
That's because you might become the target.
It's critical thinking that could save lives.
Sergeant Selina Balestier of the 11th MP Brigade says, "It's something that not a lot of us got in the beginning of our training. It's more advanced, more detailed and it's giving probably more of a probability of a survival rate."
And the Army thinks this training is extremely important, too.
Before operation Iraqi freedom, only 50-percent of soldiers were required to get these lessons.
Now, every soldier is learning combat life saving techniques before going into harm's way.
The 11th MP Brigade is scheduled to head to southwest Asia in August. | | |
