NORTHUMBERLAND, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY- Sources tell the I-Team there's a significant amount of missing money from the sewer authority. Leaders refused to discuss details, though most in attendance at Monday evening's council meeting knew about rumors suggesting funds had disappeared.
With rumors already running rampant, council members retreated to a private room where they remained for 55 minutes before emerging to announce Councilwoman Cindy Lark had submitted a letter of resignation. Lark apparently cited health and personnel reasons in deciding to step down.
Solicitor Ryan Tira would not comment on questions about any potential investigation ongoing in the borough. Tira would not confirm information obtained by the I-Team that claims a forensic audit is being conducted to trace the source of the missing money.
Leaders would not say if Lark's resignation had anything to do with missing money investigation. One source said the amount is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Reached by phone earlier Monday, Mayor Gretchen Brosius tersely told a reporter "I have nothing to say to you." She then hung up.
Brosius made no reference to any investigation at Monday night's meeting. She quickly exited the meeting room.
