MOUNTAIN TOP, LUZERNE COUNTY- Voters in the Crestwood School District head to the polls Tuesday to decide on a multi-million dollar district renovation proposal.

Too many students, not enough space. That's what Crestwood School administration says is the problem at the secondary complex in Mountain Top.

Administrators say the impact is far reaching. Assistant to the Crestwood Superintendent Brian Waite says, "How we schedule students classes, how we meet our students academic needs and how we will be able to meet all our students needs from K to 12."

On Tuesday, voters will choose whether or not to expand and renovate the secondary complex. A new cafeteria, science labs, and auditorium are included in the plan. It would cost $55.7 million. About $7.8 million would come from state funding. The rest would come from taxpayers.

Some like Mike Thieman think it's a good proposal. "If it's going to be good for the school district and you know, do it for the kids, yeah I think it's a good idea," he says.

Others like Lamar Kemmerer say they'll vote no. "I think I can't afford it, that's what I think," he said.

But the school district hopes voters will say yes. "Want them to make a decision that they understand impacts them directly and the students in this district and how it can impact them for years to come. So their vote is important to us," adds Waite.

If approved, construction would begin in 2010 and likely be finished by September 2012.
Polls are open from 7AM to 8PM. People living in Fairview Township are asked to use the township municipal building as their polling site.
