SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Senior Citizens Centers in Lackawanna County are hoping to get a share of over four million dollars in Federal Stimulus funds allocated to Pennsylvania for nutrition programs.

On Wednesday Vice President Joe Biden announced the release of nearly one hundred million dollars in Recovery Act Funding to support Senior Nutrition Programs around the country. It provides sixty five million dollars for nutrition services provided at senior centers and other community sites. Another thirty two million dollars is available for home delivered nutrition services.

The money will go to the state which will then allocate the funds to provider agencies.

Spokesmen at Lackawanna County's Senior Centers and at Meals On Wheels say they don't know how much, if any, of the money will be coming locally. But both agencies say they need financial help in view of an increased demand for service and rising costs.
