State Police Wind Turbine

State Police Wind Turbine - Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 5:24PM EST

Thursday, Nov 12, 2009 @ 05:24pm EST

It stands nearly 30 feet tall and will hopefully save the State Police Dunmore barracks big bucks.

"It's very important to us that we save energy any way we can," said Trooper Connie Devens.

A wind turbine was raised from the ground Thursday morning.

It will spin through the winds that blow the flags outside the barracks and help power everything this building.

Troopers hope this won't be the only turbine installed.

Devens said, "We're looking to see hopefully how well it worked and hopefully they can stretch this out to other barracks."

When this windmill is at it's peak on a windy day like Thursday it can power about 28 energy saving light bulbs at once."

The company installing the windmill has been waiting for this installation.

Schneider Electric sales representative Sherri Crawford said, "Very much an exciting day for us."

This isn't the only energy saving project at this barracks.

New windows and light bulbs have also been placed here.

Schneider Electric says in 15 years, this turbine will pay for itself and eventually save 40 thousand dollars a year in energy costs.

“The state has been very proactive throughout all of the agencies. State police is really taking the lead," said Crawford.
