Mount Carmel, Northumberland County-

A state lawmaker in Central Pennsylvania will soon have a new office, three week after his first place was torched. Representative Robert Belfanti's office is on the verge of re-opening in a new location.

Plywood still covers the windows and tape still blocks the entrance to State Representative Robert Belfanti's former office.

Arlene Terry of Mount Carmel recalled, "I thought it was terrible. I couldn't understand how anyone would do anything to Representative Belfanti after how hard he worked, for so many different things he did for our area."

But just a few blocks away, staffers are feverishly working to finish putting the pieces together at the site of Belfanti's new office on the corner of 5th and Oak Streets, better known as the old Mount Carmel municipal authority office.

As electric heaters work overtime to dry out important files, citizens here say they're glad the representative will be able to get back to business.

Mount Carmel resident Shawn Yentsch said, "I think he's a good representative. He's trying to do what he can for the community. He's been doing it for years trying to help the community, helping other people, and I think he's a great guy. I really do."

Members of Representative Belfanti's staff expect the new office to at least be up and running, if not fully functional, by Monday. They say this new location will become Belfanti's permanent office. Belfanti and his staff have made the move by themselves, often working from home and logging more than their fair share of night and weekend hours.

People we spoke with say the location of the new office may actually be better than the old one. "Oh it's wonderful. As long as we have a place where people can go and get help, it's wonderful," Mr. Yentsch said.

"Everyone knows where it's at because it was the sewer authority and everyone had to pay that, and there's easy parking there," Ms. Terry added.

Again, the new office is set to open Monday, April 14th at the corner of 5th and Oak Streets.
