State Senate Ray Musto Decides to Retire

State Senate Ray Musto Decides to Retire - Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 12:15PM EST

Thursday, Jan 28, 2010 @ 12:15am EST
PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY- After nearly four decades in Harrisburg, State Senator Ray Musto says he is going to retire.

"You just hope after more than 40 years, that you made, you made a difference." said Senator Musto

Wednesday evening, Musto said he would not seek reelection to the Senate's 14th District.
Out of a special family meeting on Sunday, Musto said it was clear the time is now.

"They're telling me hey dad, in a few weeks you're going to be 81. We'd like to have you home. So you should consider, it's time."

The walls in his office are full of pictures, of stories of a 40 year legislative career.

Musto in 1971 was elected to his father's seat in the state house.
After a brief stint in congress, Musto found his home in the state senate.
Admitting he's locked horns with fellow legislators, his run has been more about building bridges.
Now the family is calling, despite the heavy workload that is Harrisburg life.

Musto told Eyewitness News " I like the work I know there's so much more to be done, I have to respond to the family, my wife and kids, and I decided I'm not going to seek reelection."
