JENKINS TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY- A busy road in Jenkins Township was closed for several hours because of an accident involving a state police trooper. The wreck happened on the Pittston Bypass in Jenkins Township just before 3:30 Saturday afternoon.
Eyewitness News was on the scene shortly after the accident. Two cars, including a state police cruiser, collided in the northbound lanes.
Investigators at the scene confirm that two people, the drivers of both vehicles, were taken to the hospital. There’s no word on their names or conditions, but we do know the trooper is from the Wyoming barracks.
The accident happened on the bypass right by the intersection with Chestnut Street outside Northeast Eagle Distributors.
Both lanes of the bypass were closed as a state police accident reconstruction team from Towanda investigated the crash.
It was raining heavily around the time of the crash, but we don't know if that factored into the wreck.
