HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY- The investigation into a brutal Hazleton home invasion is intensifying. Two elderly people were beaten inside their home and the attackers are still on the loose. While police are not saying much, they are actively pursuing several leads.

The attack happened Saturday night at the home of Nick and Martha Caputo on South Pine Street in Hazleton. At least two men, possibly three, all wearing masks, stormed in the front door and viciously beat the Caputos. They were demanding money.

The Caputos fought back. In fact Nick Caputo was able to pull the mask off one of the attackers. He was able to bet out the back door and call his son, who was working in the family auto repair shop at the rear of the property.

The I-Team has learned that police searched several locations in the city Wednesday and have been looking for several people. Officially police are not saying if they have suspects, but investigators were in several neighborhoods searching for someone and/or evidence.

Eyewitness News spoke with the Caputo's son Blaise. He said his mom and dad are home and are recovering from their injuries.

The Caputos are a well-known and respected family in Luzerne County. They and their family own several businesses, including the popular Caputo Ice Plant. That is located at the rear of Nick and Martha’s home. Police are confident they will soon make an arrest.
