Storm Leaves Damage in the Poconos - Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 5:20PM EST

MONROE COUNTY - Wednesday night's heavy rain and winds left quite a mess in the Poconos. Martin and Doris Setzer live in Stroud Township. They woke up to find a tree laying on their house.

The couple heard the storm rage through at about four in the morning. Doris said, "It was raining so hard and the wind was whipping."

They woke up to a loud crashing sound. Doris remembered, "I he ard an awful racket and I said to him 'boy what was that?' He said 'oh Thunder.'" Martin laughed that he then "went back to sleep."

But it definitely wasn't thunder. Wind ripped a spruce tree from its roots. It smashed through their back deck and damaged part of their roof. Martin said, "You can always be thankful it didn't do any major damage to the house itself."

Their mess wasn't the only damage. Eyewitness News found problems along several roads. Water pooled on Holow Road in Middle Smithfield Township. Just a few miles away a utility pole fell right across Frutchey drive. That road was closed for hours.

Despite all the weather related problems, the Setzer's remain positive. Martin said, "That's part of life - you go on and on - you just pick up and start over again."
