STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY- The Stroudsburg Area School Board got an ear full Wednesday night from angry parents. They're fuming over a proposed dress code that students argue is more of a uniform. The code is littered with a long list of conditions from colored contacts and socks to the number of buttons on golf shirts. Students said they're expression would being inhibited. Parents said the dress code, partly intended to save money, would cost them more in the end.

School board members voted 4 to 3 to pass the dress code on its first reading. That vote was later wiped from the table. The school district apparently didn't have enough board members present to approach the policy. Seven of nine were at the two-plus hour-long meeting.

Another "first" reading will precede a budget meeting Monday in the high school's cafeteria. That's set for 7 p. m..
