The souring economy is affecting many businesses, including Solid Cactus in Luzerne County and Krispy Kreme.

Solid Cacuts, a web design and e-commerce company, laid off 40 workers this week. The job cuts were split between the company's call center in Wilkes-Barre and its new technology center in Shavertown.

Solid Cactus says lower than expected early holiday sales are to blame for the cuts.

And more than a dozen employees have been laid off from the Krispy Kreme doughnut company. The company says high gas prices forced them to cut their workforce.

The sweet-treat manufacturer has also stopped delivery routes to wholesale sites in more than a dozen counties. That means the doughnuts won't be available on store shelves, but you'll still be able to buy them directly from Krispy Kreme.
