SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - Food may have been the major focus Wednesday for a Thanksgiving giveaway at the Scranton Cultural Center, but coats were also part of the the free distribution.
Volunteers gave away thousands of used coats -- just about every size from kids to adults - to families in need.
22-year-old Steve Hudacek of Baltimore started this Thanksgiving coat giveaway about 8-years ago as a service project while attending Scranton Prep High School.
It began as a drive to get coat donations from his Moosic neighborhood and church.
He and his brother have watched it expand.
"We're all over the place to Clarks Summit down to the Wilkes-Barre area and all the local schools have been helping out," said Hudacek who comes back to his native Lackawanna County to help with the handout.
His 17-year-old brother, Chas Hudacek, keeps the program going these days.
"It feels great to do something good for the community. There's not enough done, I think, of things like this," said the teen. | |
