Sullivan County Prepares for Winestock - Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 6:34PM EST

DUSHORE, SULLIVAN COUNTY - A first-of-its-kind event will take place this Fourth of July weekend in Sullivan County. Winestock will be held starting Friday afternoon at the Bird Song Winery in Dushore.

The event is set-up to celebrate the culture and diversity of Sullivan County. It will be held on the 105 acres of the well-known winery.

"We're hungry for sharing our lives and our lifestyles with other people," winery owner John Crane said.

Hundreds, if not thousands of people, are expected to come out for the festivities. Inside, preparations for the food tables were underway Friday afternoon. Outside, the stage is already set for the bands where both Latin and American music will be heard. Salsa dance lessons will also take place on Saturday.

"This country is made by many cultures, so that's why we're sharing that with everybody," Eva Cohen of the Bird Song winery said.

What makes the event unique though, is the tragedy that owner John Crane has gone through. Just last year, he lost his wife Camilla and two of his three children, Seth and Samantha, in a fire. They are now buried on the winery property.

"It is tough because we just now got our stones to palce on the markers and we have to have a memorial service," Crane said.

Still, the love of his vineyard, his community and especially his family has made John Crane press on.

"Our children, they were the why, so we find the how to go forward," Crane said.

The Bird Song wine bottles even have new labels, just in time for Winestock. Besides pictures of the vineyard, the initials "S-C-S" are now in a crest on every bottle, to honor the three lives taken too soon.

"This label was launched this month, because of Winestock. We wanted to start with the new label to honor John's family," Cohen said.

The festivities for Winestock will take place between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM on Friday. They will continue from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Saturday.
