Loyalsock Township, Lycoming County-

PennDOT is teaming up with local beer distributors to encourage safe celebrating during the upcoming Super Bowl weekend.

According to recent statistics, roughly half of all crashes over Super Bowl weekend are alcohol-related. That's an increase of nearly 20% over the norm.

Safe driving materials are being posted at distributors in several counties, urging customers to make responsible decisions.

Highway Safety Specialist Chris Smith noted, "It's a reminder to the customers of those businesses that when they go out and socialize, have a great time with friends and family, to please make the right choice and designate a driver or plan for a safe ride home."

PennDOT and area police departments will also be cracking down on aggressive drivers over the February holidays. That includes the Super Bowl, Valentine's Day, and Mardi Gras celebrations.
