DURYEA, LUZERNE COUNTY- Some surprise fireworks Friday night at the Germania Hose Company's annual carnival in Duryea - unwelcome fireworks!

A tree rubbed on a wire from a telephone pole along Foote Avenue where they were having the carnival and the wire broke. It caused sparks and knocked out power for a short while creating a little buzz for all involved.

Lt. Joe Korea of the Germania Fire Department told us what happened. "We had some tense moments, had some zaps of the high voltage wire tonight, some rides went down, some games went down temporarily everybody was okay nobody was injured," he said.

A crew from PPL arrived shortly after some of the rides and games were shut down and quickly repaired the problem and the carnival was back in business.

Firefighters from Germania Hose Company say the real fireworks will come Sunday night, the last night of their carnival.
