PALMYRA TWP., PIKE COUNTY- A Pike County man, awarded for his excellence as a teacher, was in court Tuesday on sexual assault charges.
Investigators say 44-year-old Gregory Ritter of Greentown had sexual contact with a 14-year-old boy between September and November of 2008.
At the hearing the alleged victim confronted Ritter from the witness stand. Assistant District Attorney Bruce DeSarro said, “Any time you have a younger person testify, there are challenges in terms of perhaps being intimidated by the process. But I don't think this juvenile was and he did a really good job of testifying, today. I'm very proud of him. Obviously there will be future steps, a jury trial someday. But I'm confident in his ability to articulate what happened."
In 2000 Ritter earned a Disney American Teacher Award. He's been suspended from his 7th grade teaching job in the Bethlehem Area School District and is free on $100,000.
