PARADISE TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY - The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board dealt Mount Airy Casino Resort a good hand. The board approved table games at the Pocono casino.
Patti fisher visits Mount Airy about once a month. She said, "it's a great place to be. We love it here."
But she's disappointed because her friends don't visit with her. They prefer table games to slots. She smilled,"Maybe they'll start coming with us once the table games open up."
Mount Airy leaders hope table games attract Patti's friends and thousandsmore people to the area.
CEO George Toth said "We're real excited. This is just a great day for mount airy, a great day for the Poconos and we're ready to roll.
There will be nearly seventy tables. CEO George Toth showed Eyewitness News the poker room under construction. There are also new gaming areas being built on the main casino floor.
Workers are renovating the buffet to make room for games.
The main casino area will also see changes.
Player Vinny Pryszmont said table games will be fun. And good for the community. He explained, "it's creating a lot of jobs for a lot of people - people are happy."
Mount airy estimates it will hire four hundred and fifty new workers. More than three hundred of those positions will be full time.
Toth said table games will also help the economy by bringing more tourists - and taxes to the area. He said,"This is going to greatly enhance the revenue and the profit."
Mount Airy expects to have table games up and running by July.
