LUZERNE COUNTY -- The budget agreement has a revenue plan, including a temporary freeze on the Capital Stock and Franchise Tax, leasing additional lands for Marcellus Shale natural gas extraction, and tapping into the rainy day fund.
Some are happy to hear the legalization of table games will also play a role in earning revenue for the state. We talked to people heading into the Mohegan Sun Saturday afternoon.
"It can't hurt, it can't hurt," said George Von Oehsen, who splits time between Hazleton and Daytona Beach, Florida. "It's a matter of personal decision what you want to do with your money. You can lose it in many different ways. Will this will benefit seniors and students when you divide it up? It ought to."
There's no word on how soon table games will make their way to the casino floor.
And people buying cigarettes at a Wilkes-Barre store told us they're aware a 25-cent-per-pack state tax is coming their way. Store employees say, despite a recent and large federal tax increase on smokeless tobacco, it's cheaper for people to buy that and roll their own cigarettes. | |
