WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- The day has finally come. April 15th, the final day to file your taxes. This year there are a few changes that could catch a few procrastinators off guard.

They lined up and dropping mail in the boxes during tax deadline day at the Wilkes-Barre South Main Street Post Office. Barbara Moran of Larksville, like many here, are waiting until the last minute to mail their taxes. She says, “I do Turbo Tax and it was ready and I just thought I'd mail them on the way to work."

When it comes to tax season and preparation, some are late bloomers. Bill Cocoran of Wilkes-Barre says, "The circumstances this year were very, very hectic."

Ray Krasge of Kingston says, “I waited because I was very busy with a lot of other things, like doctors appointments and other things."

Some had a more humorous way of explaining their procrastination. Harry Davenport of Wilkes-Barre says, “To keep all my money so i don't have to give it to them to quick."

Explanations or excuses aside, the post office will close at 8:00 Tuesday night. That’s 4 hours earlier than normal on tax deadline day. The post office says that's because 70-percent of taxes are now electronically filed. Wilkes-Barre Postmaster Judy Leche says, “We feel it's not necessary to stay open until 12 at night, but we still give the customers the service and everything will be postmarked."

Even though the walk up windows will close at 8, you still have until midnight to postmark your taxes. The lobby will stay open and you can use an automated postal center. But once midnight hits, the lobby doors will be locked, putting an end to a normally hectic day.

The IRS says if you plan to do your last minute tax return online you have until midnight to submit it.
