BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY- Taxpayers in part of Columbia County are speaking out against higher taxes and government spending this Independence Day.

A tea party was staged at Bloomsburg Town Park. Some say they want to encourage taxpayers to talk with lawmakers about cutting back on government spending.

Others say the President's economic stimulus package is worth it. Wayne Risch of Berwick said, "What we need to do to get people back in control of the government, instead of the government controlling the people"

James Lincoln of Bloomsburg said, "I do agree with the president. I think this may work eventually."

Tea parties were also scheduled this Independence Day weekend in Hazleton and the Poconos.
