Ted Kennedy Remembered - Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 11:55PM EST

Wednesday, Aug 26, 2009 @ 11:55pm EST
The long-time Massachusetts Senator died Tuesday night after a bout with brain cancer. He was known as the "Lion of the Senate" for sponsoring hundreds of laws.
But an accident with a local tie may have have cost him the White House.
Kennedy was driving the car that crashed in Chappaquiddick Massachusetts in 1969.
His passenger 28 year-old Mary Jo Kopechne from Forty Fort was his passenger. She did not survive.
Longtime journalist David DeCosmo remembers reporting on the events Kopechne's funeral.
And a court case where a Massachusetts's prosecutor was fighting to exhume Kopechne's remains from the Larksville Mountain grave.
DeCosmo testified at the hearing after he was able to get his hands on Kennedy's televised explanation of the tragedy.
He told Eyewitness News "In the end, although Senator Kennedy's account of the accident varied from bits and pieces of testimony from people, Judge Brominski felt there was nothing concrete in the way of criminality."

Mary Jo Kopechne's parents died several years ago.
