MOUNT POCONO, MONROE COUNTY - Despite the economy, or maybe because of the economy, the movie business is doing well. It seems people want to escape their troubles for a few hours. Nationwide theater attendance is up about ten percent.
The owners of a movie house in Monroe County say their attendance is up about twenty percent. The Casino Theater in Mount Pocono is doing exceptionally well. It combines community service with reasonable prices.

Now showing at a theater near you - profits. While many people have less green in their wallets, they are still drawn to the silver screen. Karen Struckle who owns the Casino Theater said, "People don't like to stay home. People are social. They like to get out and do something and have something to look forward to."

The Cosgrove family from Long Pond looked forward to this big movie day all week. Little Jacob Cosgrove exclaimed, "'Cause it's the weekend for Easter!" Brian Cosgrove brought Jacob along with Hanna, Collin, Molly and Lucas Cosgrove. The group of six watched "Monsters Vs. Aliens" for just $22.

"It's the simple things that keep the kids happy and it doesn't have to be expensive," said Cosgrove.

And it's not just the ticket prices that cost less at a community theater. Snacks are also less expensive. You can pick up a kids meal that includes popcorn, soda and candy for less than four dollars."If we went down to the mall it would cost twice as much," said Cosgrove. He added he's glad he found a place affordable to take his kids because the smiles on their little faces are priceless.

Theaters all across the country expect a big boost from spring break at schools this week. The Casino Theater has extended hours and extra showings through the long holiday weekend.
