Thomas' Supermarket Job Fair

Thomas' Supermarket Job Fair - Friday, January 23, 2009 at 9:25PM EST

Shavertown, Luzerne County -

Today Thomas' Supermarket held a job fair. It really comes as no surprise. The turnout was large. Many people told Eyewitness News they have been looking for jobs for months, without success.

These people are hoping to land a job at Thomas' new supermarket now being built in Dallas Township . The grocery store held a job fair at the Shavertown fire department Thursday and Friday. Eyewitness News saw a steady stream of people filling out applications.

Store manager Scott Shotwell told Eyewitness News they expect some 800 to 1,000 applications. Scott says, "We've been seeing applications basically from a bagger all the way up to any type of management position. What were looking to fill we have received 80 to 120 people to fill those positions."

Richard Anselmi, of Exeter , is one of those people looking for work. He says the job opportunities in the area are few and far between. Richard says, " It’s not too great that's for sure. I've been off the last three years trying to get a part time job. It doesn't look so great."

Even the young folks are not seeing much. Matt Congdon, of Kingston Township says, "I have been looking for a while. I have not heard back from most of them."

The new store will open in the weeks ahead. Some will be called in for second interviews that were interviewed today and Thursday.
