Throop Fire Department Battles Budget Cuts - Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at 10:06PM EST

THROOP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY-Firefighters from Throop Engine 27 say their ability to adequately respond to fires will be severely compromised.
Throop council unanimously adopted a proposed budget that will slash funds in half for all three of its fire companies.
Council President Thomas Lukasewicz said the funding is being cut to bring the department back in-line with other area fire departments.
But members of company 27 will disagree with that assessment.
Christine Hartshorn of Engine 27 says the company is already three thousand dollars in the hole.
There's an apparent push to consolidate companies, but firefighters say it's not that easy since each station performs different functions.
