Jersey Shore, Lycoming County-
A plan to regionalize police forces in one part of central Pennsylvania is now a reality.
The Jersey Shore and Porter Township police departments will merge to become the Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police Force.
According to the regionalization committee, the move will provide increased manpower, allow for 24/ 7 service, and reduce costs.
Jersey Shore Police Chief Martin Jierles said, "If you have a problem, if you need a police officer, you call 9-1-1 immediately. One will respond, one will be there, anytime day or night."
Marvin Willits, of Linden, noted, "I think it's a good idea, a good plan. I think it's going to be a money-saver. According to the news, we're saving $88,000 here in the borough. And I think the coverage is going to be much better."
The Jersey Shore and Porter Township police departments will officially become one on January 1st, 2010. | |
