The holiday season can be the most joyful and the most stressful time of the year.

Hectic Black Friday shopping scenes display how stress can boil over and become a problem for what’s supposed to be a relaxing time period.

Eyewitness News talked with Debbie from Wilkes-Barre, who is trying to avoid holiday stress this year. "I'm not stressing out about the holidays, I'm just doing gift cards," said Debbie.

The Family Service Association of Wyoming Valley says dealing with the holidays isn't always easy. Bob Musser is a clinical social worker at the Family Service Association. He describes a stressful holiday season by saying, "There's too many cooks in the kitchen or somebody is not happy with gifts, that sort of thing so relationships can be a big problem."

He says relationships, finances and physical demands can be pushed to the brink this time of year. "If people are unrealistic about how much they can actually do, how much they can handle, they end up exhausted and crabby," said Musser.

Correctly coping with these things can sooth the stress. Musser says scale down massive plans if possible, take things in moderation and plan ahead.
