SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - There are now just 16 days until voters go to the polls for the Pennsylvania primary. The eyes of the nation will be watching for the results as both Democratic candidates, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, try to claim victory. While the candidates were not in our area Sunday, some of their top surrogates made stops in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
"I believe the right moment in history, for our nation, our time is Barack Obama," Senator Christopher Dodd said Sunday morning.
Dodd got a loud round of applause as he stopped by Barack Obama's headquarters in downtown Scranton. The former presidential candidate himself now supports Obama, because he says the Illinois senator can unite the country.
"I think America really wants a leader in this country, who will talk to all of us and treat us all fairly," Dodd said.
Just a few doors down, Dodd had competition from Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, who is the daughter of Robert Kennedy. She stopped by the Hillary Clinton headquarters.
"The people of Scranton know a fighter. They know someone who can work with them and help them and that's Hillary Clinton," Townsend said.
Speaking to Clinton supporters, Townsend said Hillary would be better to solve the nation's problems, create jobs and end the war in Iraq.
"I want somebody who is willing to stand up and say, this is important and that's what Hillary is able to do, can do and will do," Townsend said.
Following the inspirational visits, volunteers went door-to-door to drum up support for their respective candidates. | |
