Montgomery, Lycoming County-
We've reported in depth on how owners of new Toyotas can get their cars fixed. But what if you're driving a pre-owned Toyota that's on the recall list?
At Shaheen Auto Sales on Route 15 near Montgomery, owner Thomas Shaheen sells just about all varieties of used cars- including Toyotas.
He hasn't sold any that are on the recall list, and doesn't have any here on the lot. But if he did, he says the process to get the gas pedals fixed would be similar to what everyone else is doing.
Shaheen noted, "We would set up an appointment with the Toyota dealer and go through the same steps as the retail customer would."
Shaheen says used car dealerships legally can not sell any car on a recall list until all the repairs are completed.
And if you already bought a used Toyota and you're not sure of its status?
Shaheen explained, "Toyota, probably through records from PennDOT, would send them a letter letting them know that it's one of the cars affected by it."
If you're still not satisfied- or think your car may be on the list and you're waiting for a letter- you can also log onto Toyota's website for more information on the recall.
Shaheen says Toyota reacted to the gas pedal problem quickly and correctly. He hopes their image isn't tarnished over the long term.
Shaheen added, "They're good cars and they'll get it taken care of."
