PITTSTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY -- It seemed like smooth sailing for drivers on Interstate 81 Saturday afternoon. But earlier in the morning, traffic looked like it did much of last weekend -- slow as a snail.

"You can't go anywhere, not even 5 or 10 miles, without hitting construction," said truck driver Mike Peterson.

"It's been pretty constant the whole way," said Fran Garcia of Syracuse, NY. "You stop every few miles and have to slow down to about 45."

She is traveling from Central New York to Virginia. She says construction zones add precious times to trips, but you can't change it.

"You just go with it, stick to the plan, and stay calm," added Garcia.

The turnpike is set to close between Wyoming Valley Exit 115 and Clarks Summit Exit 131 Sunday morning from 12am-6am. That's expected to dump more drivers onto 81. It's so PennDOT can demolish the bridge along Suscan Road. And I-81 is down to a single lane at times heading in both directions.

Scot Coyne has worked at the Pittston Township Pilot Travel Center for eight years. He expects Route 315 to be a popular alternate route until construction season is over.

"A lot of drivers complain that they can't go that way, they have to find a different route, stuff like that," said Coyne. "It just gets crazy around here, crazy."
