POCONO MANOR - Several travel writers thought the Pocono area was all about skiing. On a recent trip, they learned they were wrong.
"There's just so much more activities around here than I'd really known about previously," said writer Sascha Zuger.

The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau invited the journalists for a winter adventure trip. PMVB Public Relations Manager Alicia Quinn said, "I think it's actually a lot easier when you have that first hand experience and you've actually done something it's easier to write about it and convince other people why they should in fact come to it themselves."

The convincing started with the Lost Trails ATV Ride at Pocono Manor. The writers road through the woods, down an abandoned ski slope and through a few obstacles. They even spotted some deer.

"It was sort of like nature meets adrenaline. It was really cool," said writer Sascha Zuger.

After the writers hopped off their ATVs they hopped onto dog sleds. Where they got to be mushers. Arctic Paws Dog Sledding at Pocono Manor is one of only a few places in the country where you actually get to drive. Most places only allow you to sit in the sled.

"It's a pretty amazing experience to stand on a sled behind eight dogs," said writer Jessica Langan-Peck.

At the end of the day, all of the ladies had new perceptions about Pocono Vacations. Langan-Peck said, "It's great to get to see this other side of things and clearly it has a little bit of something for everyone."

Arctic Paws Dog Sledding cost $49 for adults and $15 for kids under five. The adventure lasts about an hour. For reservations call 570-443-9267.
