SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty has plans to develop a section of Nay Aug Park that include renovations to a nearly 100-year-old greenhouse and a new tribute to area veterans.

Doherty wants to renovate a little used greenhouse that was donated to the city in 1910. It will be used to grow flowers to be used in Nay Aug Park. The new greenhouse would include a classroom where classes on the environment can be held.

Just outside the mayor is planning to build a "Hero Monument" to honor four area soldiers killed in the Middle East. Additionally, existing monuments within the park would be moved to new sites near the Hero Monument along the Davis Trail.

The estimated price tag for the development is a half million dollars. The city would allocate some funds, but the bulk of the money, according to Mayor Doherty, would be raised from public and corporate donations.
