Tropical Storm Hanna Soaks PA

Tropical Storm Hanna Soaks PA - Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 10:28PM EST

Reported by: Eyewitness News
Saturday, Sep 6, 2008 @ 10:28pm EST
Our area saw wind and rain from Tropical Storm Hanna, and she left behind some damage.

Sunday the National Weather Service will be in Allentown to determine whether or not a tornado touched down just before 3:00 Saturday afternoon. Trees are knocked down in one neighborhood and there is some damage to the roof of Louis E. Dieruff High School in Lehigh County.

A small rockslide closed part of Coxton Road in Duryea late Saturday afternoon. Fire police blocked off the scene and the road was closed for two hours while the mess was cleaned-up.

In Schuylkill County part of West Penn Township lost power. High winds were to blame. The lights were back on everywhere by Saturday evening, except Clamtown, where crews are still working to get the juice back.

In all nearly 10,000 PPL Customers lost power at some point during the storm.

In Monroe County gusty winds are being blamed for toppling small trees in the Stroudsburg area.

The Luzerne County Fair in Dallas closed at 5 P. M. Saturday due to the weather. It’ll reopen for its final day on Sunday at 11 A. M.

And despite Saturday's wet weather the show still went on at funfest in Hazleton. This is the 26th year for funfest, which was a little wetter than normal.

Because of the rain organizers moved many of the vendors, exhibits and bands indoors. While the rain kept some people away, it didn't dampen the fun of people who came out.

Domenico Buonsante of Nico's Pizza said, “With the rain, but people will come. I know they will, come in slower than usual, but I still think we can look forward to it, I'm very confident."

Bonnie Larock of Hazleton said, “It’s a bummer. I think people should come and have fun anyway."

Georgina Machesko of Hazleton added, “I think it’s a fun place for all your friends and family."

If you stayed away from funfest Saturday because of the rain you'll have another chance Sunday when the event continues.
