SCHUYLKILL COUNTY -- Saturday's warm weather couldn't have been better for the kickoff of trout season in one local county.

Anglers were up bright and early this morning in Schuylkill County. That's because people in the southeast portion of the state get a chance to hit the waters a little earlier than everybody else.

Eyewitness News stopped by Locust Lake State Park Saturday. There were hundreds of people casting their lines trying to get that trophy trout. Chief Park Ranger Jacqueline DeCindio said, "It's outstanding. Its probably the largest turnout I've seen in the number of years I've been a ranger at this facility."

Fred Graeff of Newton said, "It's a beautiful day. One of the most beautiful first days of trout in years and we just had to come out and enjoy the fun."

While Saturday was opening day for trout season in Schuylkill County opening day for the rest of the state will be in two weeks April 17th.
