Two College Students Set To Revitalize Part of Sunbury - Monday, June 1, 2009 at 9:15PM EST

SUNBURY, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY- A community in Northumberland County is about to get some extra attention, and it’s coming from two college students. They've both come to Sunbury this summer to help revitalize the city's Elm Street neighborhood.
Meet Jack Cebe of South Carolina and Kevin Selig of New York. They're two college interns with a big mission. “This project really attracted me because it’s all about community development and that's pretty much why I'm here," said Selig.

For the next three months they'll both be working with homeowners in Sunbury's Elm Street neighborhood, looking for ways they can improve their properties. “We're gonna try to plan some workshops in the community and get some of the community out there and involved," said Cebe.

For the most part the two students will focus on just five properties. They'll work with those homeowners to clean-up their land, plant new bushes and shrubs and do streetscaping.

They hope that work will snowball and inspire others in town. “It needs some work but its got some real character and its got some real potential. A little effort and a little elbow grease and this place could be great," said Selig.

Both students say the project rests on their shoulders. In return they're getting an invaluable lesson that can't come from a textbook. “They really can't teach you that in school. You really have to get out and work and work on projects and interact with people," added Cebe.

The students internship will end in early August. They will have to give a final presentation on their project in Harrisburg.
