DREHER TOWNSHIP, WAYNE COUNTY- More than 4,500 PPL customers were still without power at noon Thursday after heavy snow and strong winds downed electric lines on Tuesday.
Utility crews from throughout the state were brought into northeastern and central Pennsylvania to help restore service.
Maureen Grabaher and her husband used a generator to keep their furnace, refrigerator and lights going at their Dreher Township home. Maureen said, "If you live up here you've got to expect some blackouts."
Neighbor Christine Willsch had to close her daycare and preschool center when she lost her electric service. Power was restored to her home and classrooms shortly before noon Thursday and she expected to reopen on Friday just in time for the kids' Halloween Party.
