Two Shot in South Scranton

Two Shot in South Scranton - Sunday, March 15, 2009 at 11:18PM EST

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Police are looking for the gunman who shot two people in South Scranton. The shooting happened just before 6:00 Sunday evening outside a home in the 500-block of Beech Street.
The victims have been identified as a husband and wife, Michael and Lindsay Ross. They're both expected to survive but the person who shot them is still on the run.

Crime scene tape and a flurry of investigators filled Beech Street in Scranton Sunday night. This is where two people were shot on the back porch of their home, right in front of their two kids.

Vince Birtel lives right next door. Birtel said, “I hooked my dog up on the leash and like four real fast shots and the kids started screaming and his wife started screaming."

Cops say the shots came from behind the house, right off of Lavelle Court. I was talking to Mike. He said he got shot in the back and shot in the arm and I could see her arm. She got shot in the right arm and the blood was squirting all over the place," added Birtel.

Right after the shooting, the male victim came to the front part of the house, here on the sidewalk. The female victim stayed behind. Neighbors came to help both victims.

Paulette Bobersky helped Lindsay Ross right before she was taken to the hospital. “There was a gentleman that had a tourniquet on her and I just kind told him what to do," she said.

The shooting suspect is described as a white man in a dark sweatshirt and camouflage hat. Police Chief David Elliott says he may have gotten away in a silver SUV. “In the daylight, you have more people around and that’s why we were able to get a suspect lookout for someone here. Hopefully we can learn a lot more, what was going on here," he said.

As cops work out a motive for the double shooting, neighbors say they'll stay on guard. Cindy Seman said, “A little uneasy. You don't know if you want to be home, so you know your house and things are okay."

Anyone with information on the double shooting is urged to call Scranton police or 9-1-1.
