Two Supervisors in Schuylkill Co. Under Investigation

Two Supervisors in Schuylkill Co. Under Investigation - Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 5:40PM EST

WASHINGTON TWP., SCHUYLKILL COUNTY -- Too many discrepancies in two years worth of treasurers reports.

ThatÕs according to a state police search warrant served Monday, which focuses on two Washington Township supervisors.

People like Dennis Watkins of Pine Grove were surprised to hear about the investigation.

"In this area that much money is kind of hard to believe that someone would have that and they could get access to," said Watkins.

State Police are checking why township treasurer and secretary Walter Stump's records could be off thousands of dollars.

Troopers removed boxes of records and computers from StumpÕs business and former supervisor glen Ulsh's house.

To some, it's the same old story of possible government corruption.

"I hear about it all around us too not just this county but all across Pennsylvania on the news so it really doesn't surprise me to be honest with you," said one taxpayer in Pine Grove.

Stump is defending himself tonight.

He told Eyewitness News over the phone, ÒI haven't benefited from the township's funds at all. I'm waiting for the investigation to be completed before i make any further comment.Ó

Former supervisor Ulsh didn't return our phone calls Wednesday.

Right now, no charges have been filed in this case
