West Buffalo Township, Union County-

A West Buffalo Township man has been cited for cruelty to animals.

State police say 38-year-old Gary Degroat neglected a one-year-old golden retriever.

Authorities say Degroat went away for nearly a week, leaving the dog outside in an uninsulated plywood box. We're told the dog had no food and its water was frozen solid.

The dog was taken to the Animal Emergency Center in Watsontown for treatment, before being returned to its owner.

Police say they want the dog taken away from Degroat permanently.
