WEST BUFFALO TWP., UNION COUNTY -- A Mifflinburg High School student is dead after an accidental shooting in Union County.

It happened around 1:30 Saturday morning in West Buffalo Township in the 700-block of Walbash Road. State police say 17-year-old Anthony Hernandez was killed after getting shot with a 9-mm handgun.

Troopers say an unnamed 18-year-old took the gun from a cabinet in the home. The gun discharged while he was handling it, striking Hernandez in the chest.

The Mifflinburg teen died at a hospital about an hour later. A 16-year-old boy also in the house during the shooting wasn't hurt.
