TANNERSVILLE - The rough economy is forcing charities to struggle. The United Way of Monroe County counts on businesses and area employees to donate money. But struggling businesses can't always free up cash for charity. And recent layoffs mean less people are giving direct deposit donations.
So the United Way is focusing on special events to collect donations. That way people feel like they are helping someone else while having fun themselves.
"I think that's an innovated way to get people out and involved in the community even though it's a tighter economy," said Tim Kelly the Executive Director of the Monroe County United Way.
The United Way has planed several special events. Details are listed below. For more information on any event call 570-629-5657 or visit .
