WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY - For the second time in just over a week, Wilkes-Barre police are investigating another case of vandalism. Schools, businesses and homes were the target this time. All of the locations were hit over the weekend and crews spent most of the day Monday cleaning-up.
Large letters "DVN" were spray-painted on buildings all over South Wilkes-Barre. At Meyers High School, at least 10 different symbols of graffiti marked the walls surrounding Memorial Stadium.
"I think it's a disgrace. It's immaturity. This is a good school and people are doing this," Meyers High School Junior Charles McCabe said.
The school was not the only target in the weekend graffiti spree. Miner Park's basketball hoops and outhouses were also targetted.
"It's horrible. You don't know what's wrong with people now a days," Donna Sabol of Wilkes-Barre said.
City police are currently looking into whether the letters are a symbol of hate or a possible gang. Cops will only say the graffiti is currently under investigation. The graffiti spree comes just one week after the Ohav Zedek synagogue was targetted. Two people were arrested.
"These individuals that are defacing public property and private property should know that we take this very seriously," Wilkes-Barre mayor Tom Leighton said.
Even some of the city's youngest residents, kindergarteners at the Little People Daycare Center, are asking who is responsible.
"They were asking me if it was gang stuff. I said I really have no idea, but they're kind of scared," teacher Lisa Perfetto said.
