HONESDALE, WAYNE COUNTY- Two additional charges have been filed against a Wayne County man already accused with stealing money from veteran's organizations.
60-year-old John Visci gave up his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of Theft by Deception and Bad Checks. He is already being held at the Wayne County Prison on charges of stealing $29,000 from American Legion Post 254 and $1,000 from the Wayne County Veteran's Center. Visci was a former financial officer with the American Legion Post.
According to the Police complaint Visci issued a bad check for $1,438 to the Wayne County Probation Department in November of last year leading to the Bad Check Charge.
The Theft by Deception charge, according to the affidavit of probable cause, involves $2,400 Visci borrowed from a fellow veteran in August of last year. Police say Visci knew he had stolen thousands of dollars from the American Legion Post and knew he could not repay the loan though he promised to do so.
Visci left the area as the investigation into the Legion's missing funds got underway. He was tracked to California in April. He waived extradition back to Pennsylvania.
His trial on the initial charges is scheduled for January 20th. Mr. Visci intends to represent himself at that trial.
