WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY - If you live or work in downtown Wilkes-Barre, there are now more people watching you.
Lawmakers in the Diamond City unveiled the police department's new video surveillance command center Saturday morning. Right now, there are ten video cameras set-up in the city. All of the images are sent to monitors inside the city's police department.
The project has been three years in the making and city leaders say it will help to prevent crime in Wilkes-Barre.
"I think its obvious to be able to see where crime is in real time and where crime is happening, it's such an advantage we have over the criminal element," Wilkes-Barre Police Chief Gerry Dessoye said.
Officials say they are still in the testing phase of the project. A total of 130 cameras are planned for the streets of Wilkes-Barre. | |
